Is Still Wakes the Deep Playable on the Steam Deck? – Answered

Can the Steam Deck handle this UE5 title?

Still Wakes the Deep is the latest horror game from The Chinese Room built on Unreal Engine 5. This visually stunning game is available now on PC and current-generation consoles and there are plenty of settings to tweak and improve performance. However, does Still Wakes the Deep run on the Steam Deck? Here is everything you need to know.

Is Still Wakes the Deep Playable on the Steam Deck?

Yes, Still Wakes the Deep is playable on the Steam Deck with FSR3 enabled.

Since the game has support for both FSR3 and Frame Generation, it’s actually possible to enjoy a fairly smooth experience with some image breakup here and there. We only tested some of the earlier sections, but the Steam Deck was able to maintain a pretty decent framerate throughout.

We recommend applying a 40 or 50 FPS frame limit through the Steam Deck’s settings to ensure a smoother experience without minimal hitching.

It’s obvious that FSR3 and Frame Generation are doing most of the work here because turning off FSR3 brought down the framerate to the 15-20 range, which is not a great way to play this at all. Yes, there is ghosting and some fuzziness, especially when you’re moving around, but the fact that it’s even running this well on the Steam Deck is a surprise.

Currently, the game has a Playable rating from Steam because of the small text in the game, which can be a bit difficult to read. the UI elements also have some aliasing, but it’s not that big of a deal.

Does Still Wakes the Deep have Steam Cloud Support?

Unfortunately, Still Wakes the Deep does not have Steam Cloud support.

We are hopeful that a patch will add support for this soon because a lack of cloud saves makes it very hard to carry over progress without manually moving around save files. To access your local data, you need to head over to the save file location on PC.
